VisitationLay VisitationThe Lay Visitor Team was established in 2001 as a ministry to the home-bound. Its mission is to bring a measure of Christian love and care to those members of the St. Paul family who are unable to participate regularly in the life of the church. Home and nursing home visits, phone calls, greeting cards, occasional help with errands, and transportation are all a part of this vibrant ministry. Visitors often report that those they visit are the true ministers, giving back in appreciation far more than they receive. To join this vital ministry and reap the benefits of a caring, Christian community, call Pastor Swanson. Eucharistic Visitors Providing Holy Communion for the Ill, Homebound, and Imprisoned On the Second Sunday of each month, commissioned Eucharistic Visitors will take the bread and wine of communion from our communion table and bring it to home bound members unable to join us in the church. The Congregation Council of St. Paul Lutheran Church authorized the Eucharistic Ministry program at its April 2006 meeting. This form of distribution as a ministry to the ill, homebound, or imprisoned makes a very clear connection between members of the congregation in the sacrament, whether assembled in the liturgy or separated from the congregations. The pastor and other leaders will want both to engage in careful teaching and explanation to those who receive these ministries, and to train those who will carry it out. Preparation should also include prior contact with the absent member to arrange for either a celebration with the pastor or distribution by lay ministers. Requirements of Eucharistic Visitors • Training in leading the liturgy. • Willingness to serve in this capacity monthly. • Understanding and appreciation of the importance of the sacrament of Holy Communion to the life of the church. Please contact Pastor Swanson if you are willing to be trained for this important ministry. Do you know someone who would desire to receive this ministry of the church? If you know of someone who for some reason is unable to join us in worship at church, and wishes to receive Holy Communion, please contact Pastor Swanson with the name of the person. The person requesting this ministry will be added to the list of those who are visited each month. |
