Still Point Theatre CollectiveStill Point Theatre Collective is a Chicago-based community of artists dedicated to creating performances, workshops, retreats, and community events that celebrate spirituality and raise consciousness on issues of peace and justice.Founded by actress Lisa Wagner in 1993, Still Point is animated by an openness to new ideas and a willingness to challenge our comfort zones. The philosophy behind our on-going work is that art has value for everyone, and the performing arts provide a powerful venue through which to educate, inspire, and challenge people to action. Our critically acclaimed touring shows include Haunted by God: The Life of Dorothy Day, Lily, The Hermit In New York: The Life of Thomas Merton, Strong Women, taken from the writings of incarcerated women, and Deep Listening - a performance piece and seminar that explores the subjects of death, dying, and end-of-life care. Since 1998, Still Point has conducted an outreach program for incarcerated women, The Persephone Project, now with workshops in four prisons and detention facilities throughout Illinois. In addition, with Esperanza Community Services, Still Point co-sponsors a weekly creative dramatics class and the Imagination Workshop, a theater company for adults with developmental disabilities. Still Point also leads a similiar weekly theatre program that meets at El Valor, in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. As a ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park, Illinois, Still Point Theatre Collective receives its funding from various sources including foundations, religious organizations, individual donations, earned income sources such as performance fees, ticket sales and workshop fees. The organization has a volunteer governing board that provides fiscal and managerial oversight. Click here to visit Still Point Theatre Collective online. |
